Mar. 25, 2010 Lunch: Next Generation Journalists

On March 25, meet two FGCU students who are breaking new ground in the field of journalism. Maryann Batlle and Alex Pena will show their recent projects—taking you inside a homeless shelter in Hollywood, Fla., to the tomato fields of Immokalee, to the drug-ridden streets of Juarez, Mexico, and to earthquake-ravaged Haiti. The work of these inspiring young journalists indicates a promising future for journalism. Lyn Millner, who developed the curriculum for the university’s forthcoming journalism degree, will outline the plans for the new program.

Member Book Signing, Save the Date!

Cynthia Bercowetz, a member of the Naples Press Club, will be book signing at Gallery One, 1301 Third St., S., Naples, on Sunday, March 14 from 6-8 p.m. Her new books are "Tiger & the Identity Thief", an adventure series for children, and "Scams", featuring Ponzi scams including Charles Ponzi in the 1920's and more recently Bernie Madoff.

Jan 26, 2010 Lunch: Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Naples' “Field of Dreams” will be addressed on January 26th, when Gary Price of Naples City Council, and the Fifth Avenue Advisors, and David Moulton of ESPN radio will speak at this newsmakers lunch.
 

The question of whether the Chicago Cubs will come to Naples in 2011 for spring training is on the agenda. This hot topic has been tossed around in the news for months, and Price has been extremely instrumental in trying to persuade the Cubs to make Naples their second home. Moulton, a frequent sports writer at the NDN, has past experience as Sports Anchor for ABC 7 and is currently co-host of “Miller and Moulton in the Afternoon”.

The Community Foundation of Collier County recently announced a new coffee table book titled "Images of Hope." It is a photographic essay about Immokalee by world renowned photographer Brynn Bruijn with commentary by press club member Phil Beuth. Both Brynn and Phil will offer a multi-media presentation of their work to the press club on January 13, 2010 in the community room of the Naples Daily News. A special and unique luncheon experience is included for $25. 

January 26, 2010 - 11:30am: A luncheon devoted to America's favorite pastime: Baseball-and the question of whether the  Cubs will be spending springtime in Naples. Panel members include David Moulton, NDN columnist and co-anchor of the daily Sports talk program on ESP Radio. Gary Price, the man behind the proposal to bring the Chicago Cubs here will also speak. Place to be announced.
