Apropos of the 15th Anniversary of the Naples Press Club, the member spotlight this month is on one of the Club’s earliest members: Maureen Sullivan-Hartung.
Jim Brandetsas (cq.) may be 91 years old but he is still cartooning, a hobby he started when he was 3 years old!
His parents moved into a new house and the wall hadn’t been painted yet, so he decided to draw a cartoon on the wall—and when they painted the wall, they painted around the cartoon.
An auspicious beginning for a young man who was offered a job from Disney World, with full education paid for, when he was 17 years old. His parents had other ideas, however, telling him he was to be a doctor like his brother.
Instead, he became a dentist, and did cartooning all through his 43 years of dentistry in Palmyra, N.Y. Four of his original cartoons have been requested by the National Press Club magazine.

Two of our members will be discussing some of their favorite topics at Collier County libraries this month. At the Headquarters Library 3585 Orange Blossom Rd., Tom Tyrrell, retired international lawyer, and one of our luncheon speakers this year, will talk about "Islam : Oil and Revolution."
