Cable vs. Direct TV vs. HiDef vs. Fiber Optic?

April 22, 2010 Luncheon - On World Affairs

Daniel Bumstead, President of the Naples Council on World Affairs, will be the featured speaker at the April 22nd luncheon event.

His address will touch on the Council’s outreach program to area high schools, their model United Nations program and the Village Assistance Program. These programs, he notes, help prepare our youth to better face the challenges of the world we have given them.

He  will also comment on the troubled hot spots of the world and address Press freedom, or lack of it.  According to our speaker, although there is a new administration in Washington, world problems remain the same. Members of the press continue to risk their lives covering wars that never seem to end. "What's Cuba going to be like when Castro dies? Will newspapers be allowed to flourish?"

A Great Big Thank You - by Mike Trephan

To all those that attended the "Honor the Free Press" day event.

One of the nice things about heading up a program is the support of the membership in making it a success. For those that attended this event, you already know that it was a sell out, but what you don't is that we had to turn another 75 away. It is not just that we had a good honoree, but also that you all got the word around.

Apr 10, 2010: Celebrity Author Luncheon

“An inside story from an insider featuring behind the scenes of military meetings, boardrooms, and parlors of the Washington power elite.”

That’s how the books of Karna Bodman have been described. She served in the White House under President Reagan for six years, first as deputy press secretary under James Brady and later as Senior Director of the National Security Council.

Her experiences have resulted in books in which her heroes race against time and terrorists mixing suspense, romance and death scenarios.
Reservation is Closed.

As the featured speaker at the Authors and Books Festival sponsored by the Naples Press club, Bodman, a Naples resident  will speak about working in the West Wing and her latest challenge: writing novels with strong heroines countering contemporary threats. She will also sign her books:”Checkmate,” “Gambit” and “Final Finesse”.

The luncheon is Saturday April 10, 2010 at 11:45 AM, at Vergina on 5th Avenue South. It is a most popular kick off event for the Authors and Books Festival and early reservations are suggested.

There is a choice of three menu selections: Rigatoni Pomodoro, Chicken Parmigiana  or Tilapia al Limon.

Jan 26, 2010 Lunch: Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Naples' “Field of Dreams” will be addressed on January 26th, when Gary Price of Naples City Council, and the Fifth Avenue Advisors, and David Moulton of ESPN radio will speak at this newsmakers lunch.

The question of whether the Chicago Cubs will come to Naples in 2011 for spring training is on the agenda. This hot topic has been tossed around in the news for months, and Price has been extremely instrumental in trying to persuade the Cubs to make Naples their second home. Moulton, a frequent sports writer at the NDN, has past experience as Sports Anchor for ABC 7 and is currently co-host of “Miller and Moulton in the Afternoon”.

Human Trafficking in Collier County?

It's hard to believe that human trafficking could be happening right in our own backyard.

This startling fact was hammered home with a bang to many in the audience, at last month's discussion of the topic sponsored by the Press Club at Edison College.

Nola Theiss, director of the Human Trafficking Awareness group, here, punctuated her remarks with examples of distressing local situations that were eye-openers to many in the audience. She urged the group to be aware of this increasingly alarming problem that haunts transients and young female workers, and to call her agency with any suspicions or information.
