Inside Scoop: October 2011
Happy Hours continue to generate news and networking for NPC members as witnessed last month at the Hilton.
The lobby was full of “happy”, chatting, merry-makers anxious to talk about their summer happenings and upcoming professional happenings.
George Walmsley didn’t summer in Canada this year. He was working hard on a remake of his first book “Virtuoso. a Love Story in Scarlet.” The title is changed a bit to:”The Virtuoso”, A Young Man’s Journey” and it will be out on e-book in November. He also plans a sequel to be announced soon. Can’t wait to hear what happens to John Dupree and Sophia Berry!
“I definitely see e-books as the way to go, “George commented.
New member D.K. Christi talked about her new venture Southwest Spotlight a free magazine that features events, things to do and opportunities to give back in and around Bonita Springs. . The digital version can be found at swspotlight.com. She is also the author of several stories of love and friendship including “Ghost Orchid.”
Bob Bair, who seems to find friends wherever he goes, met a man in the lobby he hadn’t seen in 30 years. “This fellow was in the first phone book in Naples” Bob explained.
The October 13th to 19th issue of Florida Weekly contained articles from several of our NPC members.
Sandy Reed’s story on feral cats made the front cover; Sue Huff describes the upcoming fundraiser on behalf of the Friends of Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park’s Second Annual Green Flash Celebration to be held on Saturday November 5th. Funds raised provide upgrades to the park and information is available at 239-390-0770; Phil Jason provided reviews on two members new books: Lisa Flemings “Cat and Crow: An Amazing Friendship” and Michele Sfakianos’ “4-1-1 on Life Skills.”
Arthur Hecht tells us that FGCU has added a BA in Journalism this semester and an additional professor to teach ethics and morals in Journalism. Efforts of the NPC in this direction have paid off, he explained.
“In addition”, he said,” the 2011/2012 Naples Press Club Scholarship Endowed Fund has awarded $400 to Mary Castro, an Immokalee resident and Immokalee HS grad of 2010, with a 3.2 GPA.”
More about Mary Castro next time.
In this issue of SCOOP a new column “Member Spotlight “is being initiated. Send your ideas for members to “spotlight” to lajollalulu@aol.com.
It’s gratifying to have so many members contributing ideas to the blog/newsletter. That’s what it’s all about:”Members”
