Immokalee: Images of Hope
The picture of Immokalee painted by Brynn Bruijn and Phil Beuth at the last luncheon was both powerful, startling and unsettling. Hard to imagine the disparity of this poverty ridden town just 30 miles from what is said to be the richest county in the state.
Through the lens of Bruijn and with the banter of Beuth we learned that there is hope for change here, especially with the philanthropic efforts of the Collier Foundation which has granted millions of dollars to nonprofits over the past 20 years.
Bruijn and Beuth would make a great “song and dance” team to promote her beautiful photographic book “Images of Hope, Immokalee looking Forward and Looking Back.” Anyone out there up for producing a video of these two, and their witty collaboration, to take on the road and educate others about the changes and the volunteers who have made a great difference in this town’s hopes and dreams?
