Mar. 25, 2010 Lunch: Next Generation Journalists
On March 25, meet two FGCU students who are breaking new ground in the field of journalism. Maryann Batlle and Alex Pena will show their recent projects—taking you inside a homeless shelter in Hollywood, Fla., to the tomato fields of Immokalee, to the drug-ridden streets of Juarez, Mexico, and to earthquake-ravaged Haiti. The work of these inspiring young journalists indicates a promising future for journalism. Lyn Millner, who developed the curriculum for the university’s forthcoming journalism degree, will outline the plans for the new program.

Cynthia Bercowetz, a member of the Naples Press Club, will be book signing at Gallery One, 1301 Third St., S., Naples, on Sunday, March 14 from 6-8 p.m. Her new books are "Tiger & the Identity Thief", an adventure series for children, and "Scams", featuring Ponzi scams including Charles Ponzi in the 1920's and more recently Bernie Madoff.
She needs no introduction to the Naples community, but she is new at the helm of the Naples Press Club.
I’ve been checking out that huge, new, odd looking building on Immokalee Road for a year now, and finally had a chance to peek inside at a recent open house. Some information from a hand-out and personal observation:
Pick up local newspapers almost any day lately and you will see NPC members in the news.
Although the Cubs didn't show in Naples, we had a great time at the "Take me out to the Ball Game" luncheon last month.
Nicole, a life-long Yankees fan who grew up in New Jersey before moving to Naples with her parents and two younger brothers, was chosen as one of NPC’s 2008 Scholarship Students. A graduate of Palmetto Ridge H. S. in the top 10% of her class, Nicole enrolled in the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa as a Journalism major.
The ET Brisson Detachment, Marine Corps League of Naples, requests your attendance at the sixth Annual “Honor the Free Press Day”, Wednesday, March 17, 2010.
Check this space next month to see how NPC members learned how to "TWEETUP" with Chris Silk.
