Mar. 25, 2010 Lunch: Next Generation Journalists

On March 25, meet two FGCU students who are breaking new ground in the field of journalism. Maryann Batlle and Alex Pena will show their recent projects—taking you inside a homeless shelter in Hollywood, Fla., to the tomato fields of Immokalee, to the drug-ridden streets of Juarez, Mexico, and to earthquake-ravaged Haiti. The work of these inspiring young journalists indicates a promising future for journalism. Lyn Millner, who developed the curriculum for the university’s forthcoming journalism degree, will outline the plans for the new program.

Member Book Signing, Save the Date!

Cynthia Bercowetz, a member of the Naples Press Club, will be book signing at Gallery One, 1301 Third St., S., Naples, on Sunday, March 14 from 6-8 p.m. Her new books are "Tiger & the Identity Thief", an adventure series for children, and "Scams", featuring Ponzi scams including Charles Ponzi in the 1920's and more recently Bernie Madoff.

Donna Fiala and I have something in common. We were both born on the west side of Cleveland, Ohio! However, she has lived in Naples since 1974 and is much respected as our County Commissioner since 2000.

Recap: Take me out to the Ball Game Luncheon

Although the Cubs didn't show in Naples, we had a great time at the "Take me out to the Ball Game" luncheon last month.
  
Paul Wachsmith hit a home run lining up Gary Price and Dave Moulton to give us the "inside story' on this timely spring  issue and Dave even gave us his prediction  --the Cubs would stay in Mesa--which proved to be accurate.
 
The wait staff got into the act with appropos t-shirts and baseball caps and the hot dogs tasted just like Wrigley Field specials...

Meet Nicole Groll, an NPC Scholarship Student

Nicole, a life-long Yankees fan who grew up in New Jersey before moving to Naples with her parents and two younger brothers, was chosen as one of NPC’s 2008 Scholarship Students. A graduate of Palmetto Ridge H. S. in the top 10% of her class, Nicole enrolled in the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa as a Journalism major.
